In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers, along with teams from other states and local college students, provided aid in the affected areas. Students from Valdosta State University joined forces with volunteers at Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta to help with relief efforts, including unloading food trucks and assisting recovery teams. Additionally, students from Georgia Southern University and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College also participated in storm relief activities within their communities.
The students worked alongside disaster relief volunteers to provide support to storm survivors. They collected supplies, prayed, and distributed meals to those in need. Despite facing their own challenges, the students remained dedicated to helping others in the aftermath of the storm. For some, the experience was life-changing, leading them to pursue additional training in disaster relief efforts with the hope of being able to help people in need in the future.
Overall, the students’ efforts were described as a grassroots movement driven by a desire to serve others and demonstrate God’s love through their actions. They worked tirelessly to clean up debris, provide meals, and offer assistance to their communities in the wake of the storm.
