A forty-three-year-old Summerville man was arrested last week after a confrontation with neighbors.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office released this week, on the evening of October 17th, 2024, a domestic dispute involving a missing dog escalated into a criminal trespass arrest. Deputy Jonathon Reynolds of the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 60 Milton Circle, Apt-32, Summerville, GA. Upon arrival, Deputy Reynolds spoke with the residents, Johnny Brooks and Venus Overby, who alleged that their neighbor, Michael Glen Chambers, had been harassing them with phone calls and attempted forced entry into their apartment.

According to Brooks, Chambers had been helping them find their dog after it had escaped. Chambers had been keeping the dog at his apartment, but the dog escaped and returned to Brooks’ residence. Chambers left a note demanding the dog, but Brooks refused to return it, claiming they had owned the dog since it was a puppy. After repeated phone calls and texts, Chambers arrived at Brooks’ apartment, banging on the door and demanding entry. Brooks refused, but Chambers attempted to force his way in. When that failed, Chambers kicked the complainants’ grocery cart, breaking the wheel. Overby estimated the cost of the cart to be $50.00.

Sheriffs Deputies went to Chambers’ apartment at 112 Maplewood Drive. Chambers admitted to being at the scene and acknowledged his friendship with the complainants. Based on his admission, the complainants’ testimony, and the visible damage to the cart, Deputy Reynolds arrested Chambers for criminal trespass. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without incident.
