
Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Law Enforcement Academy equips students with the knowledge and skills for a fulfilling career in law enforcement, a high-demand profession in Georgia. The academy, located at the Gordon County Campus in Calhoun, offers Basic POST (Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council) Certification, Intermediate Law Enforcement, and Advanced Law Enforcement certificates. Open to both law enforcement professionals and those seeking a career change, the academy first opened its doors in 2009.
GNTC’s Law Enforcement Academy focuses on training and certifying law enforcement officers. The Basic POST Certification class, running for 11 weeks, covers crucial subjects like criminal law, community relations, firearms training, investigative skills, law enforcement procedures, traffic services, and emergency vehicle operations. The academy also offers Intermediate and Advanced Law Enforcement classes, providing specialized training in areas like advanced criminal procedure, first responder training, officer survival, and advanced firearms training.
The academy prides itself on its experienced faculty, boasting a combined 90 years of law enforcement experience. The program has a strong reputation, with a high employment rate for graduates. The academy has placed graduates in law enforcement agencies throughout GNTC’s nine-county service area, as well as in Atlanta and state agencies. The academy also offers continuing education courses and specialized training for agencies, ensuring ongoing development of the law enforcement workforce.
