On Tuesday, the Metro Atlanta Skills Challenge, a premier workforce development event organized by The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia),  was held and showcased the remarkable skills of high school students enrolled in construction programs across the region.  Chattooga High School’s CTAE welding and construction teams competed and were named “Overall Winner” of the regional event.

The event celebrated the talents of young tradespeople and provided them with invaluable networking opportunities with potential employers in the construction industry. The Skills Challenge featured a variety of core competitions, including carpentry, electrical work, masonry, plumbing, and welding. In addition to these primary events, participants had the chance to tackle challenges in blueprint reading, heavy equipment operation, roofing, and more—demonstrating the diverse skill sets required in today’s construction jobs.

Among the standout competitors were students from Chattooga’s construction and welding organizations, who delivered impressive performances throughout the day. Lane Bridges secured second place in Electrical, while CarolAnn Cash took home third in Blueprint Reading. Zayden Cook excelled in Plumbing, earning first place, followed closely by Chance Elrod, who placed third in the same category. Jonas Hardy showcased his skills in Masonry with a third-place finish, and Gunner Henderson achieved second place in Welding. Chattooga’s Mason Majors clinched first place in Carpentry, while Evan Stephens also earned first in Welding. The team of Keira Quinn and Lexy Cochran competed in Drywall, securing first place in their category.

The Metro Atlanta Skills Challenge serves as a crucial stepping stone for students aiming to advance to the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference. This event is made possible by the generous support of industry partners, who donate their time, expertise, and resources, ensuring that students have access to these vital opportunities for growth and success.
