A Rome police officer was involved in a deadly car accident on Redmond Circle at the Gala Shopping Center on Monday morning while responding to a bomb threat at U. S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home. An email received by the Rome Police Department claimed a pipe bomb was placed in Greene’s mailbox, threatening detonation if it was opened.

In response, the police sent the Floyd County Bomb Squad to her residence. One officer, driving his personal vehicle, a 2015 GMC Sierra, got into an accident near Walmart at about 11:24 a. m. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the GMC hit a 2002 Mazda Protege, driven by 66-year-old Tammie Pickelsimer, after she pulled out from a parking lot. Pickelsimer was later hospitalized but died from her injuries. The officer sustained what were reported as minor injuries.

Greene’s office confirmed she has faced at least nine swatting incidents since taking office, along with other threats. The email’s origin was traced to a Russian IP address, and her office is working with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to address the threat.
