Big Lots, a nationwide discount retailer, has officially announced a “going out of business” sale at all its locations nationwide. The announcement comes as the company seeks to protect its finances and find a potential buyer amidst challenging market conditions.
Bruce Thorn, CEO of Big Lots, expressed the difficulty behind this decision, stating, “We all have worked extremely hard and have taken every step to complete a going concern sale. While we remain hopeful that we can close an alternative transaction, we have made the difficult decision to begin the GOB process in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate.” As the company prepares to liquidate its inventory, shoppers can anticipate significant discounts both online and in-store. Customers looking for holiday bargains will find markdowns on a wide range of products, including furniture, home décor, and pantry items, as Big Lots clears out its remaining stock.
Though no specific end date has been set for the sales, Big Lots indicated that its “goal would be to complete a sale by early January” of 2025. As the company offers deals, it aims to ensure that customers can take advantage of discounted prices during the holiday shopping season.
With over 1,420 stores across 48 states, Big Lots has been a staple in the retail landscape. In our area, stores closing include the locations in Rome, Dalton, Cartersville, Fort Oglethorpe, and Fort Payne, Alabama.
