A bipartisan bill led by Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff has increased retirement benefits for teachers and first responders in Georgia.

The Social Security Fairness Act was passed last Friday night and will boost Social Security benefits for public employees like teachers, firefighters, and police officers. After passing the House of Representatives last month, the bill is now awaiting the President’s signature.

The bill will end the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset, which currently reduce Social Security benefits for certain workers and their families. Sen. Ossoff emphasized the need to stop unfair reductions in benefits for those who serve the state.

The act has strong support from unions and organizations representing educators and first responders.
