Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen will hold a meeting tonight at the Chattooga County Ag Building to discuss revoking a poultry house permit that was issued by former Commissioner Blake Elsberry. The meeting will focus on the concerns regarding the permit’s validity and its effects on local landowners.

Opponents of the permit have expressed strong concerns, and a letter from attorneys for neighboring property owners argues that the permit approval violated Chattooga County Poultry Ordinance rules, and should never have been granted. The letter claims there are flaws in Rocking S Farm, LLC’s application, suggesting it was designed to avoid legal notification of nearby property owners. The firm has objected to construction at the site and plans to seek a temporary restraining order if work continues.

Commissioner Allen agrees that the original permit should not have been granted due to potential violations of Chattooga County’s Poultry Ordinance that has been in place since 2016. Allen plans to allow the county attorney, landowners’ legal representatives, and the poultry farmer’s attorneys to share their views at the meeting.
