The annual Black History Month Celebration sponsored by the Chattooga County Democratic Party drew a large crowd to the Civic Center on Saturday, February 22. Emceed and coordinated by Pam Albert, the event, titled “Celebrating Our Heritage Through Poem and Song,” featured local talent and recognized civic leaders for their contributions.
Maisha Ludy, Coordinator with Chattooga Family Connection, was awarded the Community Service Award in recognition of her service as a volunteer with various charitable endeavors. Maisha’s son Mai’Jor Blair presented the award to his mother, delivering one of the most heartfelt moments of the evening.
The Community Spirit Award was given to Janice Foster who is an active member of the MLK Committee, works with Camp Juliette Low, and is a caregiver. Her family, including 7 children, siblings and grandchildren presented the award and performed en masse with their mother in a rousing spiritual.
