Georgia drivers are enjoying continued relief at the pump as gas prices maintain their downward trend. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia is currently $2.94 (subject to change overnight), according to AAA.

This price is 5 cents lower than a week ago, a penny higher than a month ago, and a significant 26 cents less than this time last year. Filling up a 15-gallon tank now costs around $44.10, almost $4.00 less than a year ago. “Because crude oil prices remain low, pump prices have followed suit,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Now that the new month is upon us, March madness is bound to roll in, so drivers might want to savor the current dip in gas prices.” Waiters cautions that prices typically rise in March and April due to increased travel for Spring Break and the switch to a more expensive summer blend of gasoline. “Predicting how steep prices will climb is anyone’s guess, so drivers are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled and maybe budget a bit extra for fuel in their upcoming plans.”

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has also decreased by 5 cents since last Monday, settling at $3.09 (subject to change overnight). Warmer weather and cooler prices have been a welcome combination for drivers, though experts anticipate a slight upward shift in March as seasonal maintenance is completed. Despite increased gasoline demand, up from 8.23 million b/d to 8.45 million b/d, the total domestic gasoline supply rose slightly.

The most expensive Georgia metro markets are Athens ($2.99), Atlanta ($2.98), and Macon ($2.95).

The least expensive Georgia metro markets are Dalton ($2.81), Albany ($2.80), and Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.73).
