The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College is once again hosting a major tennis event, with the Georgia Open wheelchair tennis tournament kicking off this Wednesday. According to Sarah Williams with Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism, the professional tournament will welcome 50 athletes from 15 countries, promising a week of exciting competition.

“It is a professional wheelchair tournament with 50 athletes this year from 15 countries,” Williams stated, highlighting the international scope of the event. The tournament will run through Sunday, offering locals and tennis enthusiasts alike a chance to witness world-class wheelchair tennis firsthand. The Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism is still seeking volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of the tournament. “We are still looking for volunteers to come help with the tournament,” Williams explained. “If anybody is interested in coming out and helping us fill coolers, take bananas down to the courts, keep an eye on things, and watch some great tennis, we would love to have some help.”

The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, which opened in 2016, boasts 57 courts spread across a 30-acre site. This impressive facility includes USTA standard asphalt tennis courts, 6 NCAA regulation courts, 6 indoor courts, and 3 center courts designed for both tournament and collegiate play. Its terraced design offers full ADA accessibility, including wider entryways to accommodate sport chairs, making it a prime location for wheelchair tennis events.
