A Chickamauga man was arrested Saturday after Walker County deputies discovered a gruesome scene at his residence on Garrett Chapel Road. Daniel Keith Bradley, 49, is facing 27 counts of aggravated animal cruelty after deputies found 26 dead roosters on his property, along with four canines in varying states of distress.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest, stating the investigation began with a report of a vehicle blocking a driveway. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the deceased poultry and, based on further investigation, suspect the roosters died as a result of cockfighting. Evidence found on the property included leg tags, spurs, and medications commonly associated with the illegal blood sport. In addition to the dead roosters, deputies discovered four dogs. One canine was reportedly suffering from a broken leg, while the other three were found to be living in inadequate conditions. All four dogs were seized by Walker County Animal Control for treatment and care.

Bradley was arrested and booked into the Walker County Jail, where he awaits his first court appearance on the felony animal cruelty charges, as well as potential misdemeanor counts related to the condition of the dogs.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine if Bradley was involved in organized cockfighting, a federally outlawed activity.The Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act of 2007 made it illegal to transport cockfighting equipment across state or national borders.
