
Chattooga High School chemistry classes recently participated in the MiniPCR Lab-in-a-Box program, providing students with a hands-on experience in DNA analysis.
The program, offered to schools nationwide, lends reagents and equipment free of charge for a two-week period. Chattooga High students put their scientific skills to the test, simulating the extraction and replication of DNA to identify the source of a bacterial outbreak affecting food destined for Mars. The investigation revealed a surprising culprit: the burger! Through this immersive experience, students honed essential lab techniques, including micropipetting, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), and gel electrophoresis. These skills are crucial for understanding and participating in modern biological research. This experience allowed students to learn micropipetting, PCR, and gel electrophoresis skills, and it was a huge win according to the school.
