Northwest Georgia residents are waking up to cloudy skies today and there is a chance of  rain and scattered thunderstorms with no expected severe weather, a potential for severe weather is developing for Saturday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service indicates a 40 percent chance of showers before 11 am today, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 67 degrees. Monday night will be clear with a low around 37. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be sunny with highs in the mid-70s. However, the forecast shifts later in the week. Thursday brings a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 68. Friday is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. The primary concern is Saturday. A strong weather system is predicted to move in from the west, increasing the likelihood of severe weather.

Officials urge residents to closely monitor weather updates as the week progresses. The chance of precipitation on Saturday is 80%. Saturday night will bring more showers and the chance of thunderstorms with some storms that could produce heavy rainfall. Lows will be around 49. Sunday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 65 with a 30% chance of showers.
