Chattooga County Schools recently honored its talented student writers at the annual Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition Reception. The event recognized district winners from each grade level (K-12), celebrating their outstanding literary achievements alongside their dedicated ELA teachers.

The program highlighted the unique voices and creativity of students from across the district. Each winning student was introduced by their teacher, received recognition for their accomplishments, and was given the opportunity to share their work with attendees. Superintendent Dr. Michelle Helie and other district leaders presented certificates and custom-engraved pens to the winning students. A special thank you was extended to the Title 1 Federal Program and the City of Summerville, a key community partner, for their support in making the event possible. A highlight of the evening was Hannah Reynolds, a 10th-grade student, whose poem “Lamppost” received an honorable mention at the NWGA RESA Region 1 Competition. The Young Georgia Authors competition, sponsored by GLAS, the Georgia RESA Network, and supported by the Georgia Department of Education, has been celebrating student writing across Georgia since 1991. The competition encourages excellence in writing and recognizes student achievement in both the arts and academics.
