Travis Downie has been sentenced to 45 years in prison, with 18 years to be served without parole, after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges in Catoosa County Superior Court on February 25, 2025. The charges stemmed from an incident on May 26, 2024, where Downie fired multiple shots at a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on American Boulevard.

Downie pled guilty to Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine (between 4 and 28 grams), Stalking, Harassing Communications, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He fled the scene after the shooting but was apprehended nearby by a K-9 officer. He then cooperated with deputies to reveal the location of the firearm he had hidden under a porch. Due to his lengthy felony record in Hamilton County, Tennessee, Downie was sentenced as a recidivist.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Beth Evans. District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller issued a strong statement following the sentencing: “Law enforcement is one of the most dangerous jobs in our community, and we protect those who have the courage to wear the badge and join the thin blue line that protects us from violent criminals. If Tennessee trash rolls down hill to Northwest Georgia, don’t worry, we’ll take care of it. We take out our trash and warehouse it in prison.”

Fuller emphasized the sentence underscores the commitment of the Northwest Georgia judicial system to protecting law enforcement and holding violent criminals accountable for their actions.
