The City of Summerville is expected to adopt its fiscal year 2025-2026 budget at tonight’s City Council meeting, with a focus on community improvements and maintaining current service rates for residents. Summerville City Councilman Joe Money announced the proposed budget emphasizes projects requested by citizens without burdening them with increased utility costs.

“The council asked our City Manager & Finance Director to present us with a budget with No Rate Increases on services to citizens, and they did,” Money stated.

Key initiatives within the budget include significant improvements to the Summerville Recreation Center. These projects include the construction of a new Splash Pad, installation of new lighting at all ball fields, and the purchase of noise reduction material for the gymnasium to address echoing concerns. The city is also optimistic about securing a $200,000 grant to build mini-pitch soccer fields at Fairway. Beyond recreation, the budget allocates funds for continued street paving projects throughout the city and improvements to the drainage system in Town Creek to enhance its flow. Maintaining and improving the city’s drinking water quality remains a top priority. According to Councilman Money, the new water production well is expected to be operational by the end of the year, running through the Berryton facility. The existing carbon filters used to remove PFAS from the water supply are performing effectively, keeping levels well below advisory limits.
