Get ready for a day of sweet treats and locomotive excitement! Summerville Main Street is hosting a delightful celebration of National Dairy Month at the Summerville Depot today, featuring the 2025 Chill & Churn Homemade Ice Cream Contest, an Ice Cream Eating Contest, and a special appearance by a steam engine train. Dairy Day at the Depot kicks off at 10:30 a.m., promising a fun-filled event for ice cream enthusiasts and rail fans alike.
A highlight of the day will be the arrival and turning of a double steam engine on the Summerville Turntable around 1:00 p.m., offering a unique photo opportunity for train lovers. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers N-Scale T-TRAK club will also be present, showcasing their N-Scale train display and engaging with train enthusiasts of all ages. For those with a competitive sweet tooth, the Ice Cream Eating Contest offers a chance to prove their ice cream-guzzling prowess. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with contests starting at 11:00 a.m. Winners in both youth and adult divisions will receive $25 Gift Cards to Sugarville Bakery, known for its delicious baked goods and newly added Ashby’s Scooped Ice Cream.
The main event, the Chill & Churn Homemade Ice Cream Contest, invites the public to showcase their ice cream-making skills. Registration is open until 11:30 a.m. today. The grand prize winner will take home $500, sponsored by Meter Service & Sales, LLC. Second place will receive $250 from Rapid Water Recovery Services, and third place will be awarded $100 from Chattooga Farm Bureau. Churning begins at 11:45 a.m., with competitors free to use any flavor ice cream recipe. Attendees can also participate in the People’s Choice Award by purchasing a $5 wristband to sample all entries and cast their vote between 12:45 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Winners for all categories will be announced at 2:15 p.m. In addition to the contests and train activities, the event will feature a selection of food and craft vendors.
