Floyd County Police are moving from downtown Rome to a former elementary school campus. A significant effort has transformed the former Glenwood Primary School into the new headquarters for the Floyd County Police Department, set to move in on Tuesday. Captain Ron Hunton with the Floyd County Police Department noted that the move has been gradual and aimed at avoiding service interruptions, such as record handling. The property was transferred from the Floyd County Board of Education in May 2023, after Glenwood closed in 2022. Hunton mentioned that the new facility will provide extra space and improved training opportunities, especially with a large gym for hosting classes. The downtown joint law enforcement center will be converted into additional courtroom space as part of a recent agreement. The Rome City Police Department is currently housed in a temporary location off of Technology Parkway and will move into a new permanent headquarters on Riverside Parkway once it is constructed.
