Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum is excited to announce the launch of “Family Mornings,” a brand-new event series designed to offer interactive and educational experiences for young learners and their families. The inaugural event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, from 10 AM until 1 PM.
“Family Mornings” will be offered free of charge and is open to all ages, providing a dynamic and enriching way for families to explore the museum together. The series will be held multiple times throughout the year, specifically during school breaks, to maximize family participation.
The first event, themed “Music at the Berry Schools,” promises a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations centered around the history of music at the Berry campus:
- STEM Activity: Explore how music was played in the early 1900s, inspired by the museum’s Edison amberola.
- Dulcimer Demonstration: Enjoy a live performance and demonstration by the InSpires Pickers, a talented local dulcimer group.
- “Make Your Own Music” Station: Families can create their own melodies with instruments provided in partnership with Kindermusik at Berry College.
In addition to the themed activities, families will have the opportunity to tour the childhood home of Martha Berry. These tours, though open to all ages, are particularly intended for children ages 6–10 and will be offered at 10:00 AM, 11 AM, and Noon. While the “Family Mornings” event and its core activities are free, a nominal fee and regular admission apply for these guided tours of Martha Berry’s home. Reservations for tours are encouraged and can be made through the museum’s standard reservation page.
“We’re thrilled to introduce ‘Family Mornings’ as a way to make the museum more engaging for families,” said Emma Smith, Office Manager at Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn, play, and explore together in a fun and accessible environment.”
