A domestic dispute last week at a Sidney Street residence escalated into a physical altercation, leading to the arrest of a Summerville woman who now faces multiple charges, including cruelty to children and battery.

Charity Jones, 40, of Summerville, was taken into custody following an incident at 15 Sidney Street, where Summerville Police officers were dispatched after a 911 call identified Jones as the aggressor in a domestic dispute that had become physical.

According to the police report, upon arrival, the initial responding officer observed a female, identified as Charity Jones, quickly exit the residence with a bottle in her hand. When instructed to show her hands, Jones reportedly brought the bottle to her mouth and began rapidly consuming its contents, which appeared to be an alcoholic beverage. Despite repeated commands from the officer to stop, Jones allegedly continued to drink the liquid, failing to comply with directives. The officer eventually confiscated the bottle and detained Jones, who then claimed she did not realize the individual was a police officer or that she was being addressed.

Officers Joshua Mitchell and Ibzan Ramirez arrived on the scene to assist. While Jones was held outside, the primary officer entered the residence to investigate further.

Inside, officers spoke with Sheena Jones, who stated that Charity Jones was “being crazy,” punching walls, and had thrown and broken her television. Sheena Jones also claimed that Charity was yelling, using foul language, and attempting to fight everyone, including her boyfriend, Nikell Brown. Brown, however, told officers that Charity had not been physical with him.

A more serious accusation came from a 12-year-old child. The juvenile stated that Charity had struck her several times in the face and pulled her hair. This occurred, according to the child, when she intervened as Jones was attempting to harm Nikell Brown. Officers observed reddening on the juvenile’s face, and the child appeared visibly terrified and was crying. Two other juveniles, an 11-year-old and another 12-year-old, reportedly heard the physical altercation.

All subjects inside the residence expressed fear of Charity Jones, and one individual had a recording on their phone capturing Charity screaming and using foul language.

Based on the gathered statements and evidence, Charity Jones was placed under arrest. During the arrest and transport process, Officer Mitchell reported that Jones repeatedly attempted to grab the alcoholic beverage again, even while handcuffed, prompting Officer Ramirez to dispose of it. Jones was reportedly irate and refused to walk on her own when being escorted to Officer Ramirez’s patrol vehicle. Officer Ramirez successfully transported Charity Jones to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.
