Cherokee County Man Convicted of Burglary and Possession of Burglar’s Tools

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has launched a search for Michael Bentley, who has been added to their Most Wanted list after failing to report to court-mandated rehabilitation. Bentley, a convicted burglar, was recently released from custody on a court order but did not comply with the terms of his release.

Bentley’s legal troubles stem from an incident on November 11, 2024, when Cherokee County deputies were dispatched to an address in reference to a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers discovered Bentley asleep inside a camper.

When questioned about his entry, Bentley admitted to using pliers to remove a padlock from the camper door. He also informed officers that he had removed a camera from a tree that was positioned to point towards the camper. Authorities confirmed that Bentley was also subject to an active protection order held by the homeowner.

Following this incident, Bentley was convicted of burglary in April of this year. He was recently released from the custody of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office specifically to attend a court-ordered rehabilitation program. However, Bentley failed to appear at the designated facility, prompting the issuance of new warrants for his arrest.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information regarding Michael Bentley’s whereabouts to contact them immediately at 256-927-3365.
