Summerville Police are investigating an unusual early morning theft on Hinton Street, where a man reported a PlayStation 5 stolen from his inoperable vehicle, admitting the gaming console did not belong to him.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to 271 Hinton Street around 2:55 AM on July 16, 2025, following a call regarding a theft. Upon arrival, officers met with James Wester, who stated he discovered the driver’s side door of his vehicle open.
Wester informed police that it appeared someone had attempted to hotwire his car, which he confirmed was not operable at the time. Further inspection revealed that a PlayStation 5, which was inside a bookbag, had been stolen from the back seat of the vehicle.
Notably, Wester also told officers that the stolen PlayStation 5 was not his personal property.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident. No arrests have been made at this time, and no further details regarding potential suspects or the console’s actual owner were immediately available in the report.
