A Summerville man faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and battery, following a domestic dispute at a local residence on Thursday morning that reportedly involved a bat and a knife, and ended with him allegedly resisting arrest.

Justin Lee Reynolds, 29, was arrested on July 17, 2025, after Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a physical domestic altercation at 26 Butterfly Lane.

According to the arrest report filed by Deputy Benjamin Mollohan, he and Cpl. N. Flood arrived at the scene around 8:01 AM. Deputies encountered Reynolds on the front porch, observing injuries to his face and mouth. Reynolds reportedly told Deputy Mollohan he had a verbal argument with his brother, Terry Mcarthur Adams, which escalated when his brother allegedly pulled a knife. Reynolds claimed he then retrieved a bat and “defended himself.” He subsequently reported difficulty breathing, and EMS was called, though Reynolds later refused transport.

Statements from other family members painted a conflicting picture of the events. Angela Lynn Reynolds, the mother of the two men, sustained a small laceration to her ear, which she stated occurred while attempting to stop the fight between her sons. Johnny Mack Reynolds, the father, told deputies that Justin Reynolds had woken his brother, Mr. Adams, and initiated a verbal argument before retrieving a bat and engaging in a physical altercation.

Terry Mcarthur Adams, who was found with small lacerations to his hands and arms, an injury to his head, and blood on his shirt, corroborated the father’s account, stating Justin Reynolds had woken him up and started an argument. Adams claimed Justin Reynolds then retrieved a bat, forcing him to defend himself, and that during the struggle, Justin Reynolds attempted to take a knife he had on his person.

The situation further escalated during the arrest process. After refusing EMS, deputies attempted to take Justin Reynolds into custody. According to the report, Reynolds initially refused to comply with commands to stand up and place his hands behind his back, instead beginning to yell. He then allegedly jumped off the porch and ran for approximately 50 yards before lying down and complying with the handcuffing.

However, once cuffed, Reynolds reportedly tensed his body, resisting attempts by deputies Mollohan and Flood to help him stand. After being assisted to his feet, he dropped his body weight again, falling to the ground. As Deputy Mollohan moved to retrieve his patrol vehicle, Reynolds allegedly attempted to get his legs under him to stand up again. Deputies Mollohan and Flood then had to physically restrain Reynolds face down until additional units arrived.

Once additional law enforcement personnel were on scene, Justin Lee Reynolds complied and was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.

He has been charged with Aggravated Assault, two counts of Battery (Family Violence), and two counts of Obstruction of Officers. The incident was reportedly captured on Deputy Mollohan’s body-worn camera.
