Atrium Health Floyd will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week by hosting “The Big Latch On,” a free community event dedicated to honoring the challenging yet rewarding work of breastfeeding and pumping mothers.

The event is scheduled for Friday, August 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Family Birth Center waiting area, located on the third floor of Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

“The breastfeeding journey, while a profoundly special bonding experience between mother and child, is often accompanied by its unique set of challenges,” said Kellie Pearson, director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Atrium Health Floyd.

“World Breastfeeding Week has a clear mission: to foster community support for breastfeeding mothers and integrate breastfeeding seamlessly into daily life,” Pearson added. “The Big Latch On highlights the importance of breastfeeding and demonstrates powerful solidarity and mutual encouragement among the global breastfeeding community.”

The event invites breastfeeding and pumping moms to utilize a provided welcoming space, connect with others, and access valuable information about breastfeeding. Attendees can also look forward to door prizes, light refreshments, raffle prizes, and giveaways. Children, partners, and members of the Moms Circle support group are all welcome to attend in solidarity.

Those who plan to attend are encouraged to register in advance.
