Three individuals are facing numerous felony drug charges after a traffic stop at a sobriety and safety checkpoint early Sunday morning in Summerville led to the discovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The arrests were made by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol.
April Nicole Carlton, 33, Christopher Lee Davenport, 32, and Nicholas Lloyd Trammell, 43, were all taken into custody on July 27, 2025, following the incident.
According to a report filed by Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Robinson, law enforcement personnel were conducting a license and safety checkpoint at the intersection of Butler Dairy Road and Sprayberry Hills Road around 12:01 AM. Deputy Robinson, positioned a short distance from the main checkpoint, was flagged down by Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Keith Flowers, Cpl. Doug Shamblin, and Chattooga County Cpl. Rob Villagomez, who had a white Ford Fusion (Georgia tag TFX9087) pulled over.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Robinson immediately detected a strong odor of suspected marijuana emanating from inside. He also recognized the rear passenger, Nicholas Trammell, and suspected he had an active arrest warrant. As Deputy Jonathon Reynolds verified the warrant, Cpl. Shamblin conducted field sobriety tests on the driver, Christopher Davenport. Cpl. Flowers and Deputy Robinson instructed front seat passenger April Carlton to step out of the vehicle for a probable cause search.
During the search, Deputy Robinson located a gray zipper case on the driver’s floorboard. Inside, officers found a large zip-lock bag containing approximately 24 grams of suspected marijuana, a black grinder, and another large zip-lock bag with a brown, crystal-like substance. This substance later field-tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. The case also contained a digital scale with suspected drug residue, several small zip-lock bags, and multiple syringes.
In the back seat, Cpl. Flowers discovered a brown backpack containing two additional large zip-lock bags of suspected marijuana, weighing approximately 6 grams and 24 grams, along with a red grinder and digital scales with suspected marijuana residue. An open Twisted Tea can was found in the front cup holder, and an open Budweiser aluminum bottle was on the passenger-side rear floorboard.
A metal wallet, located on the passenger side roof, was identified by Cpl. Shamblin as belonging to Mr. Davenport and stated it had come from Ms. Carlton’s pocketbook. The wallet contained $670 in cash.
Based on the discovery of the suspected narcotics, drug-related objects, and cash, all three occupants were placed under arrest. Carlton, Davenport, and Trammell each face multiple felony charges including:
- Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Schedule II Drug(s)
- Possession, Manufacturing, etc., of Certain Controlled Substances
- Felony Possession/Manufacture/Sell/Purchase of Marijuana
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of Drug Related Objects
Additionally, Christopher Lee Davenport was additionally charged by GSP with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and No Insurance.
Cpl. Villagomez and Deputy Reynolds transported the three subjects to the Chattooga County Jail without incident. Deputy Robinson deployed K-9 Kendy for a secondary search of the vehicle, but no further contraband was located. The suspected narcotics, drug-related objects, and cash were taken into evidence for processing, and the vehicle was impounded by Gary’s Wrecker Service.
