The City of Summerville City Council has scheduled a called meeting for Monday, August 4, 2025, at 5:30 PM, at Summerville City Hall. The agenda features two items dealing with the proposed additional sales tax and a special election for an empty council seat.

The primary item on the agenda is the consideration of an Intergovernmental Agreement concerning the 2026 Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) referendum. The council will engage in discussion followed by a vote on approving this agreement, which outlines how the proceeds generated by the proposed 2026 TSPLOST will be used and distributed.

The TSPLOST is a significant funding mechanism for local infrastructure projects, including road improvements, bridge repairs, and other transportation-related initiatives. The second key item on the agenda involves authorizing the Mayor to sign a resolution to conduct a special election on November 4, 2025. This election is slated to fill the unexpired term of Council Seat #3,  that was held by Ricky Hughes. Hughes resigned his seat last month to run for mayor.
