Students in Trion City Schools will return to classrooms today, Monday, marking the start of the 2025-2026 academic year after a brief but necessary delay to accommodate ongoing campus improvements.

The original start date for the school year was slated for Friday, but Trion City Schools announced a postponement, citing the need for additional time to complete critical construction projects.

The delay was attributed to the final stages of several key construction projects across the district, including a new entryway at the high school and a newly renovated safety canopy at Trion Elementary School (TES) and Trion Middle School (TMS).

According to School Superintendent Dr. Phil Williams, the decision to push back the start was made to prioritize student and staff safety and ensure a welcoming environment.

“Our school system construction projects, specifically the new high school entryway and the newly renovated TES/TMS safety canopy are near completion,” Williams stated. “Delaying the startup of school will help to ensure that our facilities are safe and welcoming to our students, families, and staff.”

Williams expressed appreciation for the community’s understanding and support during the slight adjustment to the academic calendar. “We appreciate your understanding and support, and we look forward to the 2025-2026 school year,” he concluded.
