According to a report released this past Friday by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a Summerville man was arrested August 1st after allegedly causing a public disturbance on Maplewood Drive, prompting calls from concerned neighbors.

Rodney Marvin Hines, 41, was taken into custody by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness.

According to an arrest report, Corporal Jared Wilks was dispatched to 112 Maplewood Drive around 2:43 p.m. in reference to a possible domestic issue. Upon arrival, Cpl. Wilks immediately overheard a female subject state, “he’s got one last time to call us the ‘N’ word.”

The female complainant informed Cpl. Wilks that Hines had been “talking out loud,” making claims that random people were following him and openly stating he was a “meth user and crack user.” A male neighbor corroborated the account, telling officers the disturbance had been ongoing since the previous night and was “especially loud today,” audible from approximately 100 yards away at the roadway.

Cpl. Wilks then located Hines at apartment #66. While speaking with Hines, the officer noted a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. Hines admitted to only having consumed “one beer,” and much of his conversation was described as “nonsense and rambling.”

Deputy Ellenburg, who was also on scene, spoke with the apartment manager. The manager stated that Hines had been “loud and boisterous outside” before running back into his apartment prior to officers’ arrival.

Hines was subsequently placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was transported to the Chattooga County Detention Center without incident.
