Summerville water customers affected by alleged water contamination now have a clear path to accessing temporary clean drinking water, thanks to a partial class settlement agreement. Eligible households can choose between receiving regular deliveries of bottled water or having a permanent filtration system installed in their homes, free of charge. However, the deadline to apply is fast approaching.

The settlement aims to provide immediate relief and ensure access to safe drinking water while addressing ongoing concerns about the public water supply.

Customers who are part of the class settlement can select one of two methods to receive their temporary drinking water:

1. Water Bottle Option: For those opting for the bottled water service, the initial delivery will include a water bottle stand and four 5-gallon jugs, along with a cooler. Subsequent monthly deliveries will consist of three 5-gallon jugs. Summerville water customers simply need to place empty bottles outside for pickup.

2. Water Filter Option: Alternatively, Summerville water customers may choose the installation of a permanent Everpure water filtration system. The initial filter, capable of purifying up to 4,000 gallons, is covered by the settlement. However, it’s important to note that while the filter is recommended for replacement after one year, the cost of subsequent replacement filters will not be covered by the settlement.

The delivery of bottled water and the installation of filtration units are being handled by Fontis Water Inc. of Marietta, Georgia. The company will directly contact participating residents to schedule a convenient date and time for their service.

This initiative stems from a partial class settlement addressing alleged contamination of Summerville’s water supply. To participate and select their preferred water solution, eligible Summerville water customers must submit an Election Form. The deadline for Election Form submissions is August 31, 2025.
