What initially appeared to be a perplexing discovery for a Summerville homeowner has been identified as the remains of a family pet, after bones were uncovered during excavation work on Roosevelt Street.

On Thursday, August 8th, Lina Lane, who is preparing to build a new house at 45 Roosevelt Street, made the surprising find. While excavating her property, Lane unearthed several bone fragments, including what she described as “large bones and apparent vertebrae.” Unsure of their origin or significance, she contacted the Summerville Police Department.

A Summerville Police officer was dispatched to the scene and, upon observing the remains, deemed them significant enough to call for specialized assistance. Investigators were subsequently called in and took over the scene, collecting the bones for further analysis due to their unidentified nature.

The mystery quickly unraveled just two days later. Investigators made contact with the property’s previous landowner. According to the former resident, a very large bulldog had been buried on the property years ago. This explanation perfectly matched the size and type of bones found.

The bones were returned to the complainant by the Summerville Police Department.
