Chattooga County Young Farmers will have a unique opportunity to gain insights into the intricacies of meat science as the Chattooga Ag Center hosts a special class on Thursday, September 4th, at 7 PM. The session will feature Chattooga native Hamp Thomas, Assistant Lab Manager at the UGA Meat Science Technology Center, who will delve into “How Production Impacts Product.”

The class promises to be highly beneficial for aspiring and current farmers, offering critical knowledge on the scientific principles behind meat production and how various farming practices directly influence the final product’s quality, texture, and taste. Understanding these connections is crucial for optimizing livestock management and market value.

Hamp Thomas is a familiar face to many in Chattooga County. A proud native, he is an alumnus of Chattooga High School and worked at WZQZ Radio before pursuing his studies at the University of Georgia. His deep roots in the community are further emphasized by his parents, local farmer Wesley Thomas and Chattooga County Extension Agent Rebecca Thomas. His return to lead this class offers Chattooga County Young Farmers the chance to learn from a respected expert with a personal connection to the area’s agricultural heritage.
