Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen has announced the retirement of Mr. Eugene Cordell, who has served with distinction as the county’s Water Superintendent for the past 20 years. Mr. Cordell’s retirement will be effective September 12, 2025, marking the end of a remarkable career that began on June 27, 2005.

Throughout his two decades of service, Mr. Cordell has been an cornerstone of the Water Department, playing a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the county’s critical water infrastructure. His leadership has been credited with ensuring reliable water service for Chattooga County residents and for mentoring numerous county employees who have followed in his footsteps. His profound understanding of water systems and unwavering commitment to public service have left an indelible mark on the community.

“Eugene Cordell’s retirement marks the end of an era for Chattooga County,” stated Sole Commissioner Andy Allen. “His leadership, integrity, and tireless work ethic have helped shape the Water Department into what it is today. We are profoundly grateful for his service and extend our warmest wishes for this next chapter of his life.”

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Chattooga County will host a public recognition ceremony on September 11, 2025, at 1 p.m. The ceremony will take place at 1685 Old Hwy 27, Trion, GA. Residents, current and former colleagues, and friends are cordially invited to attend and share their appreciation for Mr. Cordell’s dedicated career.
