Fifteen lives were tragically lost on Georgia roadways during the 2025 Labor Day holiday travel period, according to final statistics released by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The four-day enforcement period, which began Friday, August 29, at 6:00 p.m. and concluded Monday, September 1, at 11:59 p.m., also saw hundreds of injuries and thousands of citations issued across the state.

Of the 15 fatal crashes statewide, one incident occurred in Troop A, which covers Northwest Georgia. This particular crash, investigated by the GSP’s Cartersville Post, happened on Sunday on Highway 61 near Ryles Road in Bartow County. A passenger in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck tragically died when the vehicle overturned.

Beyond the tragic loss of life, Troopers responded to more than 280 crashes across the state over the holiday weekend, which resulted in over 150 injuries.

In an effort to promote road safety and prevent impaired or reckless driving, GSP Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers maintained a significant presence on Georgia’s roads. Their intensified efforts led to over 19,500 traffic stops throughout the long weekend.

These stops resulted in a substantial number of enforcement actions, including:

Over 9,800 citations issued.
More than 14,400 warnings given.
425 drivers arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
702 citations for distracted driving.
1,094 seat belt violations.
200 child restraint violations.

The comprehensive data underscores the ongoing challenges of road safety and the continuous efforts by law enforcement to make Georgia’s highways safer for all travelers. The GSP reminds all motorists to prioritize safety, avoid impaired and distracted driving, and always buckle up, including ensuring children are properly restrained.
