A 63-year-old Armuchee man was arrested last Thursday evening on methamphetamine trafficking and multiple other charges after a routine traffic stop in Floyd County escalated into a struggle with law enforcement.

Michael Eugene Trammell was taken into custody at Big Texas Valley Road and Huffaker Road following the incident.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Trammell’s vehicle was initially pulled over for a brake light being out and for hauling trash without a tarp. During the stop, officers reportedly discovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs.

Authorities state Trammell was found in possession of over an ounce of methamphetamine. The discovery also included two smaller bags of meth, allegedly packaged for sale, and two glass pipes, commonly used for drug consumption.

The situation reportedly intensified when Trammell attempted to throw one of the smaller bags of methamphetamine, leading to an additional charge of tampering with evidence. As officers attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly refused to comply, refusing to put his hands behind his back. Jail records indicate Trammell then balled up his fists and attempted to strike two police officers while they were being placed in handcuffs.

As a result of the incident, Trammell faces a litany of charges. In addition to methamphetamine trafficking, he is also charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute, two felony counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers, one misdemeanor count of obstruction of law enforcement officers, possession of drug-related objects, tampering with evidence, unsecured load, and standards for brake lights and signal devices.

Trammell was booked into the Floyd County Jail.
