The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the award of 44 new contracts for transportation projects across the state, totaling approximately $201.8 million, including a repaving and shoulder improvement project in Chattooga County. These significant investments are aimed at enhancing roadway infrastructure, improving safety, and optimizing traffic flow for Georgia residents and commuters.
Chattooga County will see improvements to State Route 337. Northwest Georgia Paving in Calhoun was selected as the low bidder for a $2.7 million contract dedicated to this vital corridor. The project on State Route 337 will encompass 6.628 miles of milling, plant mix resurfacing, and shoulder rehabilitation. These improvements are slated for the section of the highway extending from the Menlo area to the Alabama State Line. The comprehensive work is designed to improve the pavement quality, extend the lifespan of the road, and enhance driver safety.
The anticipated completion date for the SR 337 project in Chattooga County is June 30, 2026.
These latest awards mark a robust start to Georgia DOT’s Fiscal Year 2026, which commenced on July 1. With these contracts, the department’s construction contract totals for the current fiscal year have already surpassed $201 million, underscoring a strong commitment to infrastructure development across Georgia.
The array of projects funded by these contracts will address various transportation needs, from routine maintenance to critical upgrades, ensuring Georgia’s road network remains efficient and ready to support the state’s growing population and economy.
