A Summerville DoorDash delivery driver sustained facial injuries today after being bitten by a dog during a delivery at a residence on 146 E First Ave. Despite the traumatic experience, the victim, Dennis Prince, reportedly declined to press charges, stating the dog “was doing his job.”

Summerville Police responded to the dog bite call and upon arrival, officers were met by Mr. Prince, who explained he was delivering an order to the address when the incident occurred.

According to Prince, his DoorDash instructions specifically advised him to “please knock and hand to the customer.” He stated he rang the doorbell, then knocked, and heard a small child call for his mom from inside the house. Prince noted he did not hear any dog until the door was opened.

“The homeowner opened the door, at which time their dog lunged out at me, biting me in the face,” Prince recounted to officers.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported Mr. Prince for treatment, where he received stitches for his injury. Despite the clear physical and emotional distress, Prince expressed a surprising understanding of the animal’s actions. “I did not need a report or want to press charges,” Prince stated, “as the dog was doing his job.”

The homeowner offered a differing perspective on the delivery instructions. They stated that the delivery was supposed to be contactless, with the order left at the door, and added that the delivery arrived earlier than expected.

Summerville Police confirmed that the dog involved in the incident is up-to-date on its shot records, with verification provided by the Summerville Veterinary Clinic.
