The Chattooga Indians hosted their first home football game of the season Friday evening, celebrating homecoming festivities but ultimately falling to Gordon Central with a final score of 21-14. Despite a spirited second-half performance, the Indians remain in search of their first win.

The game saw the Indians struggle offensively in the first half, going into halftime scoreless. However, Chattooga rallied significantly after the break, putting all 14 of their points on the board in the latter half of the game. Despite the strong comeback effort, it wasn’t enough to overcome Gordon Central’s lead.

Homecoming Celebrations Bring Light to the Evening

Off the field, the atmosphere was festive as the Chattooga community celebrated its annual Homecoming. The highlight of the evening’s pageantry was the crowning of Addie Veach as Homecoming Queen.

She was joined on the court by First Runner-up Sydney Evans and Second Runner-up Izabella Burdick. The underclassmen princesses honored were Freshman Princess Emma Veach, Sophomore Princess Kaitlyn Mowry, and Junior Princess Daysa Martin.

Next Week’s Game Against Armuchee Carries Somber Context

Looking ahead, the Chattooga Indians will hit the road next week to face off against the Armuchee Indians. However, the upcoming matchup is set against a profoundly sorrowful backdrop for the Armuchee community.

Armuchee’s scheduled home game last night against Gordon Lee was postponed following the tragic death of 15-year-old freshman football player David Clemones. Clemones was killed in a multi-vehicle wreck on Tuesday night. In response to the devastating loss, Armuchee’s game against Gordon Lee has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 10.

The Chattooga team and community will undoubtedly approach next week’s game with heavy hearts, extending their condolences and support to their neighboring school as they navigate this immense tragedy.
