Northwest Georgia residents are invited to immerse themselves in art, music, and community this weekend as the Paradise Garden Foundation hosts Finster Fest at Howard Finster’s iconic Paradise Garden. Kicking off today, Saturday, September 20th, and continuing Sunday, September 21st, from 10 am to 5 pm daily, this year’s festival holds special significance with the highly anticipated reopening of the World’s Folk Art Church.
The annual outdoor festival, a vibrant celebration of outsider art and creativity, will showcase the works of over 70 diverse artists. Attendees can stroll through the whimsical grounds that were once the creative sanctuary of the late Rev. Howard Finster, a celebrated outsider artist whose work is featured in major museums worldwide. The air will be filled with live music performances, and a variety of delicious offerings from local food vendors will be available throughout the weekend.
A pivotal highlight of Finster Fest this year is the grand reopening of the World’s Folk Art Church. This cherished structure, a cornerstone of Finster’s artistic vision, has undergone extensive restoration efforts after being closed to the public since 1999. Its return represents years of dedication and passion. Special speakers who played crucial roles in the church’s restoration will be on hand to share their insights and the fascinating journey of bringing this iconic piece of Finster’s legacy back to life.
Admission to Finster Fest is $10, with children under 12 admitted free. Chattooga County residents and current Paradise Garden Foundation members will receive a $5 discount on their entry.
To ensure smooth access for all visitors, free parking will be available at the local Walmart, with convenient shuttle services transporting attendees directly to the festival grounds.
Chattooga County Public Works advises Pennville residents and visitors that Rena Street will operate as a one-way street during the festival weekend to enhance traffic flow and safety. Attendees are encouraged to follow all traffic signs and allocate extra travel time when planning their visit.
