A Toiletry Drive is taking place throughout September to collect essential hygiene and household products for underserved families in Chattooga County. This initiative highlights a significant issue: federal programs like Food Stamps/EBT do not cover necessary items such as toiletries, cleaning products, and baby care items, leaving many families unable to afford basics for their health and dignity.
Amy K. Anderson, the 4-H Extension Agent and a key organizer, pointed out the urgent need for these items. The drive aims to gather a wide range of products, including personal hygiene items like toothbrushes, soap, and deodorant; household essentials like toilet paper and laundry detergent; and baby care products such as diapers and wipes.
The collected items will be distributed directly to students and families through local schools and community organizations, ensuring they reach those in most need. A representative for Leadership Chattooga stated that access to hygiene items is essential for health and well-being, and this initiative is a chance for the community to help its members live with dignity.
Community members and local businesses are encouraged to donate new, unopened items during September. Drop-off locations will be shared soon, but interested donors can contact Amy K. Anderson at the Chattooga County 4-H Extension office for more information or to arrange larger donations.
