A Chattooga County man faces multiple charges, including obstruction of officers and simple assault, following an incident Monday morning where he allegedly resisted arrest and engaged in disruptive behavior. Jacob Ryan Stewart, 38, was taken into custody after deputies responded to a residence on Butterfly Lane.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Benjamin Mollohan was dispatched to 141 Butterfly Lane at approximately 7:04 AM on September 22, 2025. The call reported that Stewart, identified as the aggressor in a previous physical domestic incident, had returned to the residence after reportedly fleeing into the woods earlier. Deputies were also advised that warrants were pending for Stewart related to the prior day’s incident.

Upon arrival, Deputy Mollohan, along with Cpl. J. Wilks and Deputy J. Roberts, entered a camper where they found Stewart and another individual, Danny Louis Ezell, arguing in a bedroom. Both individuals appeared to be in an intoxicated state. With the intention of detaining Stewart due to his earlier flight, Deputy Mollohan gave verbal commands.

The incident report details that Stewart allegedly tensed his arm and pulled away when Deputy Mollohan attempted to take his arm. He then reportedly grabbed onto Mr. Ezell and, after being separated, grabbed the door frame, refusing to comply with commands to let go. Deputies eventually pulled Stewart from the door frame and, with assistance, placed his hands behind his back despite initial resistance, ultimately securing him in handcuffs with “minimal resistance” after the initial struggle.

Following the arrest, deputies spoke with Andrew Barrett Larson, who stated Stewart had demanded he be driven to work. Larson reported locking himself in his car, at which point Stewart allegedly pounded on the vehicle’s window and screamed at him. Larson expressed fear for his safety, citing a previous battery by Stewart. He also confirmed Stewart was not invited to the residence.

Authorities also confirmed that Stewart was under a bond condition prohibiting him from having contact with Mr. Ezell. However, a check with sheriff’s office staff and Chattooga E911 through NCIC did not reveal a specific protective order preventing Stewart from contacting Ezell at the time of the incident.

The entire incident was reportedly captured on the body-worn cameras of Deputy Mollohan and other responding deputies.

Jacob Ryan Stewart has been charged with Simple Assault, Public Drunkenness, and two counts of Misdemeanor Obstruction of Officers. He remains in custody at the Chattooga County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
