On what would have been his 101st birthday, October 1st, the United States Postal Service will honor the life and enduring legacy of President Jimmy Carter with the issuance of a commemorative Forever stamp. A free dedication ceremony celebrating this tribute will be held at 11 a.m. at The Carter Center.

The new Forever stamp features the striking portrait of President Carter from a 1982 oil-on-linen painting by artist Herbert E. Abrams. This artwork served as a life study for Abrams in his creation of President Carter’s official White House portrait, capturing a significant phase of his post-presidency and public service.

The dedication ceremony promises to offer insightful reflections on President Carter’s remarkable journey. Scheduled speakers include Thomas J. Marshall, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of the U.S. Postal Service, who will formally introduce the stamp. Also addressing the attendees will be Jason Carter, grandson of President Carter and current Chair of The Carter Center Board of Trustees, offering a personal and familial perspective. Beth Davis, Chief Operating Officer of The Carter Center and former Director of Scheduling for the Office of Jimmy Carter, will further illuminate his impactful work and lasting contributions.

The issuance of this stamp by the U.S. Postal Service acknowledges President Carter’s extensive and dedicated service to both the nation and the world, extending far beyond his time in the Oval Office.
