Chattooga High School has once again demonstrated exceptional academic success, recording a four-year graduation rate that significantly surpasses the state average, according to data released by Chattooga County Schools.

The Class of 2025 at Chattooga High School (CHS) achieved an impressive 89.9% graduation rate, outpacing the Georgia statewide average of 87.2%. This achievement marks continued success for the district, highlighting focused efforts on student support and academic performance.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Helie expressed immense pride in the graduates and the collaborative effort required to reach this high milestone.

“We first congratulate the graduates of the Class of 2025 on their hard work and dedication,” remarked Superintendent Dr. Helie. “Additionally, we thank the administration, faculty, staff, parents and guardians for their commitment to the education of our students. It takes involvement from everyone to reach this milestone.”

State Sets All-Time High

Chattooga High School’s success comes amidst a record-setting year for Georgia’s public education system. The statewide four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate rose to 87.2%—a significant year-over-year improvement from 85.4% in 2024, achieving an all-time high since the state began using the federally mandated adjusted cohort calculation in 2011.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods praised the overall progress made by districts across Georgia.

“I am so proud of Georgia’s class of 2025 and the teachers, staff, and families who supported them,” said Superintendent Woods. “Seeing this increase in a single year is a strong indicator of the work Georgia’s schools and districts are doing to keep students engaged in their education and prepare them for successful lives after high school. While more work remains to be done, more Georgia students are graduating than ever before—and they’re doing so prepared to pursue futures full of opportunity.”

Commitment to Partnerships Drives Local Success

For Chattooga High School, the 89.9% rate is seen as a direct reflection of the district’s comprehensive strategy focused on student welfare and academic rigor.

The district attributes this achievement to its ongoing focus on academic success, targeted student support programs, and strong partnerships between schools, families, and the wider community. These efforts ensure students receive the individualized guidance necessary to complete their high school requirements on time.

How Georgia Calculates Graduation Rates

Georgia utilizes a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate as required by federal regulations. This method provides a consistent and accurate measure of student completion:

The rate is calculated by dividing:

The number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma, by
The number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class.

The Adjusted Cohort Definition tracks students from the beginning of ninth grade, adding any students who transfer into the cohort during the next three years and subtracting only those students who officially transfer out.
