In a stunning display of grit and determination, the Chattooga Indians delivered a significant upset Friday night, dethroning the reigning GHSA Region 7-A Division I champions, Fannin County, with a decisive 27-10 victory at home on October 3, 2025.

The Indians, playing in front of a jubilant home crowd, rallied from an early deficit to secure a crucial region win that sends shockwaves through the Division I standings. Junior running back Djavi Freeman was the offensive catalyst for Chattooga, scoring two pivotal touchdown runs.

Fannin County, who had entered the contest as the undefeated region leader, initially took an early lead. However, the momentum began to swing in the second quarter when Freeman burst through for his first touchdown run, putting Chattooga in front 13-10.

A critical defensive stand just before halftime proved to be a turning point. The Indians’ defense forced a fumble deep inside their own 5-yard line, thwarting a Fannin County scoring opportunity and preserving their narrow lead heading into the locker room.

Chattooga continued to build on their advantage in the third quarter. Javion Cotton extended the lead, punching in a 2-yard touchdown run, making the score 20-10 and giving the Indians crucial breathing room.
