Residents across Northwest Georgia and Chattooga County should prepare for a period of persistent cloudiness, breezy easterly winds, and limited chances for rainfall as deep moisture filters into the region over the beginning of the week.

Meteorological forecasts indicate that mostly cloudy skies will dominate today and Monday, bringing the opportunity for isolated to scattered showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm. However, despite the increased humidity, forecasters warn that overall rainfall totals are expected to be “meager for many.”

The current weather pattern is being dictated by a broad easterly flow, driven by surface high pressure centered off the Delmarva coastline, which is making slow eastward progress. Simultaneously, a weak low-pressure area lifting northward from the northern Gulf is reinforcing this moist environment across the region.

Immediate Outlook: Clouds Keep Highs in Check

Today’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions with highs in the lower 80s. Breezy conditions are expected, with east winds reaching 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. Tonight will see similar conditions, with lows dipping only slightly into the mid-60s as limited overnight cooling occurs beneath the cloud cover and moist airmass. These mid-60s lows are several degrees above normal for this time of year.

Monday will see similar conditions, with a continued chance for isolated showers in the afternoon amid a moist environment, though precipitation coverage is likely to be even sparser than today. High temperatures will again remain near the low 80s.

Midweek Transition Brings Increased Storm Chances

The weather will transition mid-week, starting with a warming trend on Tuesday. Highs could reach the mid-80s under partly sunny skies, with a slight 20 percent chance of afternoon showers.

The best opportunity for beneficial rainfall and stronger activity will arrive Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Tuesday night brings a higher chance of showers (50 percent), with potential thunderstorms developing after midnight. Wednesday will feature partly sunny conditions with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon as a front moves closer to the area.

Following the passage of the front, temperatures are expected to return to more seasonable norms. By Thursday, highs are predicted to drop into the mid-70s, accompanied by a slight chance of lingering afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
