Property owners across Chattooga County are beginning to receive their annual property tax bills, and this year’s statements are sporting a new design with enhanced features aimed at improving clarity and convenience. Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton announced the arrival of the bills and highlighted the significant updates implemented for the 2025 tax year.

“My favorite part of the new design is on the back of the statement,” Commissioner Hampton shared. “We’ve included a change of address form that allows property owners to update their contact information directly on the bill, eliminating the need to go online or make a phone call. We’ve also packed a wealth of information on the back to address frequently asked questions.”

The redesigned tax statements are intended to be more user-friendly, providing essential details in an accessible format. Key information now prominently displayed includes details on property exemptions. For instance, the statement will indicate “S1” for the state standard homestead exemption, which applies to property owners who resided on their property as of January 1st.

Also featured is the “FSW” exemption, the state floating exemption. This exemption, approved by Chattooga County voters in 2024, caps any increases in property value at the current rate of inflation. This initiative is part of broader state legislation that allows counties and cities to vote on a one percent sales tax specifically to reduce property taxes. If approved locally, the sales tax revenue would then be used to offset property tax burdens.

The total value of all applicable exemptions for a property owner will be clearly listed in the column titled “less exemptions.”

“I hope you find the new statements informative and easy to read,” Commissioner Hampton stated. “Thank you all for trusting me with this task each year. I enjoy finding ways to make it better and welcome your suggestions!”

In addition to the updated bill design, the Tax Commissioner’s office has also announced an extension for property tax payments. The deadline for property taxes to be due has been moved to Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to review their newly arrived tax bills carefully to familiarize themselves with the updated format and readily available information.
