Chattooga County is set to buzz with activity this weekend, October 18th and 19th, offering residents and visitors a diverse array of community events, from a celebrated quilt show and a hearty pancake breakfast to a vibrant fall festival.

Twelfth Annual Sequoyah Quilt Show Takes Over Summerville Depot

The Historic Summerville Depot will be transformed into a kaleidoscope of color and craftsmanship this Saturday and Sunday for the Twelfth Annual Sequoyah Quilt Show. Quilts of all ages, colors, patterns, and designs will be on display, showcasing a wide variety of modern, antique, and rare pieces.

The show runs Saturday, October 18th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 19th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public.

Attendees can look forward to live demonstrations and the opportunity to purchase quilts, quilt-related items, and quilting products. A limited number of food and craft vendors will also be on hand outside the depot.

A highlight of this year’s show will be the “Bed Turning” demonstrations, allowing audiences to delve into the rich stories and history behind the quilts. These pictorial histories, often shared by the quilters themselves, are scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. in the depot Freight Room, sponsored by Southern Bedding.

Adding to the weekend’s charm, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s passenger train is expected to arrive around 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, offering train enthusiasts the chance to witness the turning of the antique steam engine on Summerville’s turntable.

The Sequoyah Quilt Show is part of the “Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days” series, which also includes the Trains & Tracks Expo on November 1-2 and a Salute To The Troops on November 8.

Subligna Community Center Hosts Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Early risers on Saturday, October 18th, can head to the Subligna Community Center for their annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. From 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., the community is invited to enjoy a delicious breakfast while supporting a vital local institution.

The event aims to raise money for the upkeep of the community center, which hosts numerous events in the Subligna area. Located just past Subligna Baptist Church off of Gore-Subligna Road, the center, once the gymnasium for Subligna School, plays a crucial role in community gatherings. Menlo PTO Fall Festival Promises Evening Fun at Lawrence Park

As Saturday transitions to evening, families are invited to Lawrence Park for the annual Menlo Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Fall Festival. From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the festival promises an evening of games, door prizes, and community fun, all in support of Menlo School.

Armbands for unlimited games are available for $15, and entries for door prizes cost $5. The PTO encourages community participation and is also seeking donations for their popular cake walk. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the fall season while contributing to a good cause.
