Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Back Valley Road in Lyerly on the evening of Friday, October 10, 2025, leading to the arrest of Michael David Haake, a 61-year-old male.

The incident, reported to have occurred around 8:29 PM, involved an alleged altercation between Haake and another individual at the residence located at 3133 Back Valley Road. According to a report filed by the responding deputies, the initial call concerned a domestic situation where Haake was described as “very irate” and allegedly having consumed alcohol.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with an individual at the scene who stated that Haake had thrown a frying pan. Deputies then approached Haake, who was initially inside the residence and refused to come to the door. After being convinced to open the door, Haake reportedly began backing into the house.

Deputies attempted to place Haake under arrest, but he allegedly resisted by stiffening his arms, making the process of applying handcuffs difficult. Once handcuffed, Haake reportedly refused to move from inside the residence. He was quoted as saying, “I just want to go to bed. Take these cuffs off so I can just lay down.”

Deputies informed Haake that he was under arrest and needed to exit the house and enter a patrol vehicle. When Haake continued to refuse to walk, deputies guided him down the steps and to the patrol car.

Once inside the patrol vehicle, Haake was read his Miranda Rights. He reportedly stated he did not understand his rights and requested a lawyer. When asked by deputies what part of his rights he did not understand, Haake declined to answer. He was then placed in the back of the patrol car.

The individual who initially reported the disturbance informed deputies that the argument between them and Haake had been ongoing for the past two days and reiterated the allegation of the frying pan being thrown.

Michael David Haake was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.
