A Trion School cafeteria worker died on Tuesday while on the job. According to Trion City School Superintendent Phil Williams the worker went into cardiac arrest and first responders were unable to resuscitate the woman, identified as 62 year old Joyce Ozment.
Williams said that Ozment had gone out to the dumpsters located behind the school and when she returned to the cafeteria she told a co-worker that her shoulder was hurting. Ozment told co-workers that she was going to the restroom and left the cafeteria area. A few moments later someone noticed Ozment on the floor of the hallway leading to the restroom.
Superintendent Williams said that first responders and Redmond EMS were at the school within minutes of the call for help. Assistant School Principal Angie Bowman performed CPR on the woman until EMT’s arrived. Redmond EMT’s were unable to get a response from the victim who had gone into cardiac arrest. Williams said that children in the lunch room were unaware of the emergency at the time.
Williams said that the event was a tragedy and that Ozment had been working at Trion City Schools since 2007.
