Today is Election Day in Chattooga County and county voters should remember some crucial information as they prepare to vote in-person today. Significant changes have been made to Election Day polling locations following a decision by the Board of Elections and Registration in August.

The county has consolidated three existing precincts—Dirttown, Haywood, and Subligna—into a single new location known as the Gore Precinct. This move reduces the total number of county-wide polling places to five. The primary change impacts voters who previously cast ballots at Ebenezer Baptist Church (Haywood Precinct) and Subligna Baptist Church (Subligna Precinct). These locations will no longer serve as polling sites.

New Polling Location for Consolidated Precincts

Voters from the former Dirttown, Haywood, and Subligna Precincts must now vote at the new centralized site:

  • Gore Fire Hall
    • 9 Gore Fire Hall Road, Summerville (off Highway 27)

Five County-Wide Polling Locations

For the November 4 Special Election, all county-wide voters will cast their ballots at one of the following five locations, which will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM:

  1. Gore Fire Hall (New Site, replacing Dirttown, Haywood, and Subligna)
  2. Former Menlo City Hall (On the corner of Highway 337 and Edison Street)
  3. Lyerly Community Center
  4. Chattooga County Civic Center
  5. Trion Recreation Department

These five locations have been designated for all county-wide elections this year.

What’s On the Ballot

The county-wide election covers several critical races and issues, including seats for Public Service Commissioner District 2 and Public Service Commissioner District 3, as well as local funding referendums for the TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) and FLOST (Fire Local Option Sales Tax).

Advance and Absentee Voting Updates

County Registrar Sheena Weaver confirmed that Advance Voting has concluded, with a total of 820 Advance Voters participating.

For voters utilizing absentee ballots by mail, Ms. Weaver noted that 25 ballots have been issued for the county-wide election. Absentee ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on Election Night (November 4). While in-person voting is no longer available at the Registrar’s Office, absentee by mail ballots may still be hand-delivered to that location (10017 Commerce Street in Summerville) until the 7 PM deadline.

Crucial Distinction: Municipal Elections

Voters should note that four separate municipal elections are also taking place in Chattooga County.

Voters who are eligible to vote in Lyerly, Menlo, Summerville, or Trion’s municipal elections must go to their respective city halls to cast those ballots. These elections are conducted separately from the county-wide election.

Municipal Polling Locations:

  • Lyerly City Hall
  • Menlo City Hall
  • Summerville City Hall
  • Trion Recreation Department

Any outstanding absentee by mail ballots for municipal elections must be delivered directly to the respective city hall, not the County Registrar’s Office.
